Yes, you read right. CBD-infused olive oil for your kitchen cupboard and dinner table. You’ve probably heard of CBD products ranging from oral tinctures, topical salves and muscles rubs, and now introducing CBD Extra Virgin Olive Oil by Drops of Heal.
Firstly, what is CBD? It’s short for cannabidiol, which is the chemical extracted from the marijuana plant (through distillation) and does not contain the psychoactive ingredient, THC – so you cannot get high off CBD products.
Since 2016, UK law began to recognise the medicinal properties of CBD and can be legally sold in extract, pill form or infusion, as long as the THC content is less than 0.2%. CBD shouldn’t be confused with cannabis oil, which does contain THC.
So what is CBD olive oil like?
The Drops of Heal CBD Extra Virgin Olive Oil (kindly sent to me to try) smells and tastes like a regular, good quality olive oil.
As with conventional olive oil, it’s best used cold as it doesn’t have a high melting point so heating it up and using it to cook with just risks losing its health benefits.
I used it as I would normally use an olive oil, drizzled on salad, steamed vegetables (with a squeeze of lemon and a sprinkle of salt and pepper) and to make homemade dressings and dips, like my seven-min hummus recipe here.
Drops of Heal say this about the product: we use premium, full spectrum CBD, offering a variety of hemp nutrients such as CBD, CBD-A, CBG and other cannabinoids, as well as naturally occurring vitamin E and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. This product is an easy way to get your daily dose of CBD.
Ingredients: Full spectrum CBD oil and extra virgin olive oil
And there’s a muscle gel
The other product from Drops of Heal that I tried and might be helpful if you play sports or suffer from achy muscles, is the CBD Muscle Rub Gel. Vegan, cruelty-free and THC-free.
Like most people right now, I’m currently working out at home with a mish-mash of kit that I wouldn’t normally use so I’m actually (and strangely) suffering from some muscle soreness (which I never expected from home workouts!) so it was good timing to try this.
Most gels are a bit tacky but this one glided on and remained soft to touch on the skin without any tackiness. It also didn’t have an over-powering scent so if you hate the knock-out smell on deep heat or other muscle rubs then you might love this, with a delicately sweet peppermint aroma.
